ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) — Over the summer, the latest group of high school PRHYLI students returned to their districts from trips to Washington, D.C., and Mount Vernon, getting a firsthand look at the functions of democracy. But for these Hispanic students, many of whom immigrated to the U.S., their appreciation for law and government holds a deeper meaning, with an opportunity to advance the voices of everyday citizens through civic engagement and debate.
Questar III BOCES Technical School receives national recognition
“We bring to Albany, to the institute, 275 students from over 100 high schools from across New York State. However, we train many more students at the local delegations,” Questar III BOCES District Superintendent and program adviser Dr. Gladys Cruz said. “Then, these students get to present their experience to the entire delegation on the last day of the institute in Albany, and that is a pleasure to watch because they share what they learned from each of the systems and how it compares to New York State government.”
